Grigore Obreja ( rum. Grigore Obreja ; November 6, 1967 , Somova - May 29, 2016 ) is a Romanian canoe rower who played for the Romanian national team in the late 1980s and mid-1990s. Bronze medalist of the Atlanta Summer Olympics, world champion, winner of many regattas of national and international importance.

Biography
Born on November 6, 1967 in the commune of Somov, Tulcha County .
Romanian 33-times canoe champion.
He achieved his first serious success at the adult international level in 1988, when he became a member of the Romanian national team and thanks to a series of successful performances he was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the Seoul Summer Olympics (1988). Together with his partner George Andriyev, he took seventh place at a distance of 500 meters and sixth at a distance of 1000 meters.
At the World Championships in Mexico City (1994) in the carriage of two at five hundred meters won the gold medal. He later represented the country at the Atlanta Olympics (1996), where he and his long-time partner Georges Andriyev won the bronze medal in a half-kilometer race - only rowers from the national teams of Hungary and Moldova beat them at the finish line. Shortly after the end of the Olympic tournament, he decided to end his career as a professional athlete.
He emigrated to France, where he coached rowers at the club AS Mantaise in Mantes la Jolie. He also worked as a sports director in Buchle.
