OpenELEC ( Open Embedded Linux Entertainment Center ) is a distribution of the GNU / Linux operating system for organizing a PC -based home theater based on the Kodi media player (formerly known as XBMC [1] ).

OpenELEC applies the principle of JeOS ( English just enough operating system ), providing an OS adapted to perform one task, with fast loading from flash memory and relatively low resource consumption. [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] Installation images for the Raspberry Pi and Freescale i.MX6-based devices are also available. [7] [8] [9]

  • MySQL database is replaced by MariaDB-10.1;
  • Discontinued support for HFS and HFS + file systems;
  • Discontinued iSCSI support;
  • Discontinued support for NFS, NBD, iSCSI Network boot;
  • Discontinued LIRC support;
  • Removed drivers for Apple TV 1 IR remotes;
  • Separate X11-drivers AMDGPU, ATI (Radeon) and Intel are replaced by the universal driver Modesettings, which works with any KMS drivers;
  • Updated drivers for wireless cards and firmware sets.
