Gdańsk Medical University ( Polish. Gdański Uniwersytet Medyczny ) is a higher educational medical institution in the Polish city of Gdansk . The oldest and largest medical educational institution in Northern Poland.

Content
History
The origins of the university date back to 1454, when the workshop of surgeons was founded in the then Danzig, and then the medical department at the Academic Gymnasium (Atheneum Gedanense).
In 1935, the Senate of the Free City of Danzig decided to create a practicing medical academy (Die Staatliche Akademie für Praktische Medizin zu Danzig). After 1945 she was reorganized into the Medical Academy. From 1950 to May 19, 2009 it functioned as the Medical Academy in Gdansk.
Structure
Now the university has the following faculties:
- Dentist with Department of Dentistry,
- Health care with medical care department,
- Pharmaceutical with a department of laboratory medicine.
- Interuniversity Faculty of Biotechnology, created jointly with the University of Gdansk .
In 2003, the Interdepartmental Institute of Marine and Tropical Medicine in Gdynia , established in 1935, was included in the structure of the Medical University of Gdansk.
By the number of students studying, Gdańsk Medical University is one of the three largest educational institutions in Poland.
