Nothing is known about the origin of Rufin. In 190, he held the post of consul-suffice along with the future emperor Septimius Severus . Sometimes his name is reconstructed as Atulen Rufin. If this reconstruction is true, then between 203 and 205, Rufin was a member of the priestly collegium of the Quindetsemvir clergy . It is also possible to identify him with the proconsul of Africa in 203/204 by Rufinus and Quintus Cecilius Apuleius Rufinus.
