Mikhail Frantsevich Kustsinsky ( September 16, 1829 , Zavidichi - 1905 ) - Belarusian and Russian archaeologist , historian , local historian . Member of the Moscow Archaeological Society (1867, from 1876 - corresponding member). Full member of the Vitebsk Provincial Statistical Committee. [1] [2]

Biography

Mikhail Frantsevich Kustsinsky received his primary education at the Vilna Nobility Institute , and then continued his studies at the Law Faculty of St. Petersburg University . Upon completion of his studies, throughout his life, he was engaged in archaeological research in the Vitebsk and Smolensk provinces. Through his fellow student, Count A. S. Uvarov , he actively collaborated with many famous archaeologists in Moscow and St. Petersburg .

Created an archaeological map of Vitebsk province, a table of barrows and ancient settlements for each of its districts . The first in Belarus began to record the stages of archaeological excavations in photographs, to create a photo library of antiquities of the Veteb and neighboring provinces. He was the first researcher of the Gnezdovo mounds (1874). Engaged in the study of Borisov stones . To store and study the antiquities he collected, he created an archaeological museum in his native Zavidichi, which aroused great interest among modern archaeologists. [1] [2]
