Biography

Born in 1921 in the city of Ostrogozhsk, Voronezh province. She graduated from high school and the 2nd year of medical school, after which in 1942 she went to the front as a volunteer. She served in the 255th Marine Rifle Red Banner Brigade, fought on the North Caucasus Front and rose to the rank of senior naval officer. In the summer of 1943 she arrived at the headquarters of the 322nd battalion and handed in an order to the brigade commander, which said that Vasilyeva would continue serving as a sniper. Included in the 3rd company of the 322nd battalion as a sniper observer. She knew German well.

Olga Vasilieva participated in battles on the Malaya Zemlya and in the Novorossiysk-Taman operation. After arriving with a group of snipers at the location of her platoon, she received the first briefing from the platoon commander, sniper Grigory Kuchmenko. The next day, Vasilyeva went on her first sniper mission, for three days looking for a good position and soon opened her sniper account, shooting a German soldier digging a trench.

On the third morning I chose a new point. And when it began to grow light, she noticed the rhythmic movements of a shovel that threw out the ground. The enemy was digging, bending over. The heart in my chest somehow began to beat, my hands trembled, but the weakness lasted only a second. Having calmed myself, I wait when the German rises. And only at some point he straightened his back, stood in height. Shot. The shovel remained on the parapet, and the enemy poked into the ground. The first! No one else showed up in this message flow. So I opened a combat account, the first notch was made on the butt of a sniper rifle.

On August 15, 1943, Vasilieva, moving along a cleared road in a neutral lane, accepted her first hand-to-hand fight, having stabbed a German sniper with a Finnish knife, and on the same day she killed three more soldiers with accurate shots.

I see: a German is crawling. He very carefully extended his head beyond the right side of the monument. What I thought at that moment, how I acted - I do not know. But somehow the hand itself grabbed the finca from behind the top of the boot, and in a split second it entered something soft. I didn’t remember anything else, I lost consciousness. How much time has passed - I don’t know.

[...]

The position was successful, and the Germans did not yet know that their sniper - that he wanted to settle at the monument - was already dead, so they were not afraid of anything. That day, 3 more notches appeared on the butt of my rifle.

On the night of September 10-11, 1943, Vasilyeva destroyed her 185th, the last enemy, who was an officer from the "death squad". This happened during the landing at Kabotazhnaya pier in Novorossiysk, when Vasilieva’s detachment entrenched in the warehouses. During the battle, Olga was twice wounded: she received the first wound from a grenade rupture (a splinter stuck in her leg), the second from a bullet in her left hand. Despite the pain, Olga managed to bandage the wound and destroy the officer who attacked her.

The face of a German officer flickered in the hole: his cheeks were full, sleek, a smirk in his eyes ... Of course, that was reckless, but I got up to my full height and shot. The fascist jerked forward, hanging in a hole. A retaliatory shot followed immediately, an enemy bullet caught my right shoulder and, slipping, stopped in my left hand. This was the second wound in that battle. I received the first from a grenade rupture - a splinter stuck in my leg. I quickly did the dressing. She took a sniper, stood up again, and, overcoming the pain in her shoulder, shot. There is the 185th!

After that, the detachment was covered with dense fire of an enemy tank. Four people - Vasilieva and her colleagues “Efimych, he was about 50 years old, and young guys: Vasya and Azerbaijani Ali” - were under the ruins of a warehouse for five days. On September 16, all four climbed out of the ruins when the Germans were already retreating, and swam off to the opposite bank. The boat delivered the wounded Olga Vasilyev to the hospital of the city of Gelendzhik . She was one of those Marines who managed to survive: most of the paratroopers were either killed in action or captured by the Germans and executed with particular cruelty.

On September 26, 1943, a sniper observer of the 3rd company of the 322nd battalion (255th Red Banner Brigade) of the Marine Corps senior Red Navy officer O. A. Vasiliev was presented by the command of the unit for the award for the destruction of 6 enemy soldiers and 1 firing point when landing in the city Novorossiysk . Officially, by order No. 125 / n of October 16, 1943, she was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree for the troops of the 18th Army . After recovering, she went to Moscow as a representative of the Black Sea Fleet’s marine corps, after the war was over she was received at the Kremlin by M. I. Kalinin as a participant in the All-Union meeting of female front-line soldiers [1] .

After the war, Olga Vasilieva was discharged and returned to Voronezh, where she graduated from the medical institute and became the head doctor of the Voronezh city hospital. She was also awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree (decree of March 11, 1985 ) [2] and medals "For Courage", "For the Defense of Odessa", "For the Defense of Sevastopol", "For the Defense of the Caucasus" and "For the Victory Over Germany ” [3] .
