History

The title of Count Kodor was created on October 5, 1827 for John Campbell, 2nd Baron of Kodor (1790-1860). This Campbell branch comes from Sir John Campbell (d. 1546 ), the third son of Archibald Campbell, 2nd Earl of Argyll , and the younger brother of Colin , the ancestor of the Dukes of Argyle . His descendant Campbell Prize (1727–1768) represented the Invernesshire (1754–1761), Nairnshire (1761–1768), and Cardigan (1762–1768) in the House of Commons. His son John Campbell (1753-1821) was a member of the House of Commons from Nairnshire (1777-1780) and Cardigan (1780-1796). In 1796, he became a British peer , receiving the title of Baron Kodor of Castlemartin in Pembrokeshire .

In 1827, the titles of Viscount Emlyn from Emlyn in the county of Carmartenshire and Count Kodor of Castlemartin in the county of Pembrokeshire were created for him. All these titles were the United Kingdom Peer . His son, John Frederick Campbell, 2nd Earl of Kodor (1817–1898), was a member of parliament from Pembrokeshire (1841–1860) and Lord Lieutenant of Carmartenshire (1860–1898). His successor was his eldest son, Frederick Archibald Campbell, 3rd Earl of Kodor (1847-1911). He was a conservative politician , was a member of the House of Commons from Carmarthenshire (1874–1885), and served as the first Lord of the Admiralty (1905). Lord Kodor was also a lieutenant lord of the county of Pembroshire (1896–1911) and chairman of the Great Western Railway .

As of 2014 , the earl of title was his descendant, Colin Campbell, 7th Earl of Kodor (born 1962 ), who inherited his father in 1993 . He is also the 25th Ten of Kodor.
