Game career

Matt Hanwick from 2001 to 2003 played for the US junior team . From 2003 to 2007, he played for the University of Michigan at the NCAA . During this time, he got into the CCHA rookie team (2004), the second national team of all CCHA stars (2005 and 2006), the first national team of all stars CCHA (2007) and the second national team of NCAA (2007) [2] .

In 2004, in the seventh round of the NHL draft, Hanvika chose the Boston Bruins . After graduating from university, Hanwick joined the Boston Farm Club in the AHL - Providence Bruins . Beginning in the 2008/09 season, Hanvik has been a player at the Boston base. On April 18, 2009, Hanvik was injured in a playoff match against Montreal Canadiens . He was taken to a hospital where he underwent an operation to remove the spleen [3] [4] . On July 20, 2009, Hanvik signed a new two-year contract with Boston [5] .

On November 29, 2010, Boston traded Hanwick at Colorado Avalanche for quarterback Colby Cohen [6] . On June 30, 2011 Hanwick signed a new contract with Colorado for one year [7] . In the 2011/12 season, Hanvik spent only 33 matches for Avalanche due to the fact that he remained in reserve by decision of the coach [2] . On June 7, 2012, Hanvik extended the agreement with Colorado for another two years [8] . In the 2013/14 season, Matt played just one match for Colorado, having spent most of the season in the AHL at Lake Erie Monsters Farm Club.

On July 1, 2014, the free agent Hanwick signed a contract with the New York Rangers [9] .

On July 1, 2015, Hanvik moved to the Toronto Maple Leafs and signed a two-year contract with the club for a total of $ 2.4 million [10] .
