STP Ivonpa ( born Ivanpah Solar Power Facility ) is a large solar-fuel power plant [3] (or solar-thermodynamic power plant [4] ) (STES) of a tower type located in the state of California , USA , with an installed capacity of 390 MW . Construction began in November 2011; The power plant has been supplying electricity to consumers since February 2014.

Basic Information
The station is located in the Mojave Desert near the state border of California with the state of Nevada . The composition of the station facilities [5] :
- three hub towers, each 140 m high;
- three sections of heliostats with a total area of 14.2 km 2 , the number of heliostats in the sections - 173,500 pcs. (each consists of two mirrors of 7 m 2 with a total area of 14 m 2 ).
The power plant is designed according to a two-circuit principle, the first circuit carries out heat exchange with solar concentrators, and molten thermal salt is used as a working fluid. The heated melt obtained in the first circuit is used for a day in the second steam circuit. In case of adverse weather conditions, natural gas combustion is used to produce steam. To reduce water losses, dry cooling of the second circuit is used.
In 2014, electricity generation per month varied from 24 million kWh in February to 64 million kWh in June [6] . Design electricity generation 1.08 billion kWh / year, KIUM station 31%.
The construction cost was $ 2.2 billion.
Criticism
Compared to gas power stations, STES Ivonpa is four times more expensive and generates much less electricity. According to experts, in the future, the electricity generated by this station will cost twice as much as that obtained from conventional energy sources, and the costs will obviously be passed on to consumers [7] .
Station Fire
On May 19, 2016, a fire broke out at the station due to improper arrangement of mirrors directing sunlight to the boiler tower [8] .
