History
Canton was formed in 1860. Since 1973, it included 4 communes - Burdo [2] , La Chapelle-du-Mont-du-Sha [3] , Le Bourget-du-Lac [4] , La Mote-Servole [5] . According to the law of May 17, 2013 and the decree of February 14, 2014, the number of cantons in the Savoie department decreased from 37 to 19. The new territorial division of departments into cantons came into force during the 2015 elections. Thus, on March 22, 2015, four communes of the canton of Aix-les- Bain- Syd ( Droumette-Clarafon , Mary , Voghlan , Viviers-du-Lac ) [6] [7] were joined to the canton of La-Motte- Servol .
Population
According to the 2012 census (considered to be the population of the communes, which in 2015 were included in the canton), the population of La Mothe-Servola was 24,659 people. Of these, 24.4% were under the age of 20, 15.2% were over the age of 65. 30.6% had a higher education . Unemployment - 7.8%. The active population (over 15 years old) is 12,275 [8] .
Economy
Population distribution by employment : 0.6% - agricultural workers, 6.8% - artisans, merchants, business leaders, 18.4% - intellectual workers, 31.2% - social workers , 26.0% - state employees and 17.0% - workers [8] .

According to the law of May 17, 2013 [6], voters in each canton elect two members of the general council of a different gender during an election. They are elected for 6 years by a majority of votes based on the outcome of one or two rounds of elections [9] .
In the first round of the cantonal elections on March 22, 2015, 4 pairs of candidates ran for La Motte-Servola (the turnout was 45.90%). In the second round on March 29, Luke Berto and Nathalie Fontaine were elected with the support of 74.32% for 2015-2021. The turnout was 48.04% [10] .
