Biography
Born on February 2, 1921 in Ihlyany-Slotintse. Parents: Juraj Begala and Zuzana Begalova (nee Kittanova). He studied from 1936 to 1940 in the pedagogical school in Presov. In 1941 he was drafted into the Slovak army, studied at a military school in Spissk-Nove-Ves , from 1941 to 1943 at the Military Academy of Bratislava, in 1943 he graduated from the courses of the liaison forces in Halle. Since 1943, officer of the Slovak Army.
In May 1944, he and the battalion went to Eastern Slovakia, where he established contact with the partisans, to whom he transferred weapons. In the days of the Slovak National Uprising, he personally transferred to the side of the partisan battalion, in whose disposition there was no commander, and from August 28, 1944 he became a soldier of the 1st Czechoslovak Army in Slovakia. After arriving in Banska Bistrita, he was included in the telegraph battalion. On October 15, 1944, a soldier of the 1st tactical group "Krivá", after the defeat of the uprising, continued to fight in partisan ranks.
In 1945 he joined the Czechoslovak army. In 1949 he left the army and was deprived of the rank of lieutenant colonel, going to civil service. In 1991 he was reinstated in the rank of lieutenant colonel.
He died on June 5, 1992 in Kežmarok.
Twice a cavalier of the Military Cross of 1939 (in 1945), was awarded the medal "For courage before the enemy" (in 1946).
