The species is distributed over a large area in the province of Limpopo, South Africa. The area is mosaic. Occurs at an altitude of 600 to 1500 m above sea level. All places of growth are in zones of mountain fog. Plants grow in high-grass meadows and bushy areas, mainly on steep rocky slopes facing southeast.
The threat comes from collectors collecting plants and habitat loss in some places. Populations found in the following reserves: Lekgalameetse Nature Reserve , Mphaphuli Cycad Reserve , en: Modjadji Nature Reserve , The Wolkberg Wilderness Area , Happy Rest Nature Reserve .
