Red flamingo (Caribbean flamingo) ( lat. Phoenicopterus ruber ) is a species from the family of flamingos ( Phoenicopteridae ). Its habitat is lagoons and salt lakes. Most of their lives, red flamingos live with the same partner, they breed in bird colonies and feed on small crayfish .

The weight of red flamingos is from 2 to 2.5 kg in females and from 2.5 to 3 kg in males. Both sexes are involved in incubation of eggs. The incubation time lasts about 30 days, and the laying of eggs and incubation takes place between May and August.
Red flamingo reaches puberty at the age of six and its average life expectancy is more than 40 years. Red flamingos have practically no sexual dimorphism and therefore both sexes are very difficult to distinguish.
