Biography

At 26, he became a professor , five years later became a doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, then a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR . He worked in educational institutions and research institutes of Odessa, Kuibyshev , Kharkov, Kiev. In 1930-1933, he taught at Odessa universities, in 1933 he founded and headed the department of function theory at the restored Odessa University, where he was appointed professor. In 1940 he was accepted to the post of head of the department of algebra and functional analysis of the Institute of Mathematics of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR in Kiev. Doctor of physico-mathematical sciences (1939).

Since 1954 he worked at the Odessa Civil Engineering Institute , because of his nationality [1] [2] he was dismissed from the university.

The work is characterized by a combination of modern ideas of functional analysis and the classical ideas of Chebyshev and Markov , their connection with specific problems of mechanics. Prepared more than 60 candidates and doctors of sciences . Even in the pre-war years, Odessa Mathematical School was formed under the guidance of Crane. Since the International Mathematical Congress of 1966 in Moscow, together with their student Israel Hochberg , they have been speaking at mathematical conferences for several years and published under the collective pseudonym GoCra .

In 1970, he was elected an honorary foreign member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences . Member of the Kharkov , Moscow and American Mathematical Societies , honorary member of the St. Petersburg Mathematical Society , laureate of the Krylov Prize .

On January 14, 2008, a memorial plaque dedicated to Mark Grigorievich Krein was installed on the building of the main building of Odessa University .
