Biography
He graduated from the historical and philological faculty of Moscow University (1920).
In 1928 he graduated from the graduate school of the Research Institute of Scientific Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences , where he studied since 1924. As a dissertation, Sophists defended his work, which was published in the next year as a separate publication (M., 1929).
Since 1919 he conducted research and pedagogical work in a number of universities. Since 1934 he taught in Moscow. state Institute of History of Philosophy and Literature (MIFLI), since 1938 professor, since 1940 the head. Department of the History of Philosophy; since 1941 - philosopher. Faculty of Moscow State University (with the union of MIFLI with Moscow State University), since 1943 - Department of the History of Western Philosophy. Senior Scientific employee of the Institute of Philosophy of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR .
Candidate of Philosophy (1937, without defending a dissertation). On July 3, 1942, he defended his work on sophists as a doctoral dissertation [1] .

Died of a heart attack. He was buried at Vvedensky cemetery .
The main areas of scientific research are the history of ancient philosophy, German idealism and the latest Italian philosophy.
One of the main authors of the work “History of Philosophy” (vols. 1-3, M., 1940-43). He owns translations from ancient Greek, Latin and German.
Wife - Anna Georgievna Chernysheva (1903-1993). Son - Vladimir Borisovich Chernyshev (1936-2014), entomologist.
