History
According to a land survey map of the late 18th – early 19th centuries, a church already existed in the village. It was probably wooden. In 1823, a stone church was built at the expense of the parishioners. She had characteristic for that time elements of the Empire style , although in a rather modest form. In terms of it, it was a cross.
According to the “Index of Temple Festivities in the Voronezh Diocese” (1886) (issue 2, p. 95):
Church in the seq. Babke, Pavlovsky district, stone with a bell tower and a stone wall, built in 1823. The land of the church arable and grassland 60 tithes. Podtserk. house. One state. Parishioners 800 souls
In 1861, the Manifesto of Alexander II on the abolition of serfdom was announced in the church. There were kept the books, then transferred to the hut-reading room, and acts of civil status, now stored in the archive of the Pavlovsk Registry Office.
In 1928 the church was closed. In the 1930s, it was decided to destroy it, but because of the sturdy clutch it was only possible to remove the 90-pound bell. At the same time, the bell tower was destroyed.
The building was first used as a granary, then a seven-year school was located there. The priest’s house next door was also used for training purposes. After a new school building was built in 1981, a fire department was located in the former church (until 1998). In the post-war years, the refectory, northern and southern chapels were destroyed. On the north side of the church was built up.
In 2008, on the initiative of the villagers, work began on the restoration of the church. A temporary hip roof was built, new windows were inserted, preparations for the construction of the refectory began. With the creation of the parish council in 2012, work was carried out to repair the interiors, services were resumed. The temporary entrance is located on the south side. In 2015, the exterior walls of the church were repaired, the dome is planned to be built.
