Biography
Brooke Candy was born in the small town of Oxnard, California. She grew up in a suburb of Los Angeles , in the Agoura Hills , in a fairly wealthy family of Italian-Jewish descent. Father is the financial director of Hustler magazine, mother is a pediatric nurse. Brooke was raised quite oddly: as a child, she often visited her father’s office, where dildos and porn magazines lay all around. Her parents, realizing that they had become completely different, divorced when Brooke was still 8 years old.
After graduating from school, Brooke realized that she did not fit into the society of the “rich”, so she went with her gay friend to San Francisco , where she began to lead her rather successful photo blog on Tumblr . Returning to Los Angeles, Brooke quarreled with her mother and was driven out of the house for her non-traditional orientation. Candy first got a job at Hustler Magazine, then sold marijuana. She had to live at that time in her car. Despite the fact that Father Brooke is a "big shot", he never helped her. Then Brooke met many interesting people, including Labana Babalun, a girl who works as a dancer in a nightclub. Without thinking for a long time, Brooke became a dancer and got into the Cheetah's bar.
Career
Brooke began her rap career back in 2011, when she began publishing the first tracks from the never-released promised mixtape on her Tumblr blog. In 2012, she began performing at gay nightclubs such as Mustache Monday's in Los Angeles and WestGay in New York. The underground society accepted it rather warmly, taking it “for its own”.
In the summer of 2012, in one of the clubs in Los Angeles, Brooke met singer Grimes. She, drawing attention to the non-standard image of Brooke, invited the rapper to star in her new music video "Genesis", which was an incredible impetus in the future formation of Candy's career.
In the same 2012, the rapper released her first Internet hit, “Das Me,” which became the anthem of the LGBT community and feminists on the Internet. Diane decided not to stop there and continued to record new compositions, releasing conflicting videos from the category of NSFW (“not safe for watching”): “Everybody Does”, “I Wanna Fuck Right Now”, “Pussy Make The Rules” and "Dumb."
In 2013, the singer met the singer Sia, who contacted her through the mail and offered to write several songs for Candy. As Diane later said in one of her interviews in 2014: “At first I thought that they decided to play a trick on me like Internet trolls do; in the first letter to Sie I sent her and told her not to write to me again. But after that she wrote to me again and then I realized that this is not a joke. " In May of the same 2013, the girls began to collaborate and record their first best practices. Sia introduced Candy to many famous producers, and also offered to sign a contract with the label on which Sia herself was, “RCA Records”.
In February 2014, Candy signed her first $ 1 million contract with Sony, which she was extremely pleased with. As Diane herself later said, other labels constantly refused her and she could not believe that now she has enough money to carry out all her ideas.
After signing the contract, after 3 months, the girl presented her first mini-album, produced by Sia and Diplo: the work that she worked on for a year and a half.
