Several coins are known with the name "Hormizd" and the date of the first year of reign, minted at the mint of the Lower Milestone-Kavad on the model of the early drachmas of Khosrov II Parviz . This gave reason to Iranian scientists to assume the presence of an unknown usurper, Hormizd V, which arose in the early period of Khosrov II's reign. Other historians, criticizing this point of view, believe that there was no such usurper, the controversial drachmas are a consequence of the haste to issue VI coins by Ormizd , for which, by mistake, Khosrov II’s stamp “with the replacement of the attribution legend” was taken. Nevertheless, there is no complete clarity: the image of such drams shows that not only the name of the ruler on the face stamp has been replaced, but also the date on the back. In style (careless coinage, characteristic of the early Khosrov II), these coins should definitely be assigned to the end of the VI century, but not to the time of Hormizd VI. A double cutter error (in name and date) is unlikely. [one]
