Biography

Hasan Gimbatov was born on October 28, 1993 in Aksay , a village in the Khasavyurt district of the Republic of Dagestan . By nationality - Avar . At the age of two, he moved to the Rostov region , where he lived with his parents in the city of Salsk . Hasan’s decision to go in for boxing was influenced by the example of world champion Sultan Ibragimov . At age 12, his father brought Gimbatov to the boxing section of the city of Salsk, where he began training under the guidance of coach Abdulmutalib Abakarov. Hasan has made significant strides, speaking at domestic and international tournaments in youth and junior age categories. After moving to adult boxing, the promising heavyweight won the Russian Championship twice (2013, 2014), took part in WSB fights, became the silver medalist of the 2015 European Games . In July 2017, he signed a contract with the Russian promotion company RMK Boxing Promotion , switching to professional boxing. Married, wife Shamay, daughter of Fatima (b. 2017) [1] [2]

Amateur career

Gimbatov reached the first serious successes in boxing as a teenager. At the Russian Championship among youths, held in March 2009, Hasan won a bronze medal in the weight category over 80 kg. The champion of the country Sherip Daudov was supposed to go to the May World Championship in Armenia, but due to problems with documents (the athlete was older than the stated age), Gimbatov replaced him. In the course of the championship, Hasan defeated the Turkish boxer Muhammet Sadik Jamj, Hungarian Jeno Vold (on points, 9: 1), the host of the tournament Gore Margaryan (on points, 2: 0) in the second round, and reached the final, where he turned out to be stronger than Victor Yalimova from Moldova. An early victory in the third round of the battle made Gimbatov the world champion in this age category. In December 2009, the Russian boxer also won the All-Russian boxing competition “Nikiforov-Denisov Cup”, defeating Vyacheslav Shiklov and Evgeny Sharaev (points) on the way to the main prize [3] [4] [5] [6] .

In February 2010, Gimbatov took part in the Russian Junior Championships in Anapa. Speaker in the weight category over 91 kg. Hasan consecutively defeated Vasily Lazarev (by points, 6: 2), Irakli Sharvashidze (by points, 14: 2), Mansur Arsaliev (by points, 9: 2), and ahead of schedule in the championship final, defeated Akraman Khatsiev and became the owner of the gold medal of the tournament. The victory brought Gimbatov a ticket to the World Junior Championship, held in April-May 2010 in Azerbaijan . Hasan started the tournament with two early victories over Karel Krajnik from the Czech Republic and Kazakhstani Daulet Musabaev, but in the quarterfinals he lost to French boxer, future Olympic champion in 2016 in adult competitions Tony Yoka (by points, 6: 7). Until the end of the year, Gimbatov also won two international tournaments - Golden Gloves in Serbia and the Abbas Agalarov Memorial in Azerbaijan. [7] [8] [9] [10]

In the spring of 2011, Gimbatov became the winner of the Pavlyukov Memorial and spoke at the country's junior championship in Orenburg. He successfully overcame the first two rounds of the championship, having won due to a clear advantage in the first round of Anton Merkulov and Irakli Sharvashidze. In the quarterfinals and semifinals of the championship, Gimbatov’s rivals Vladimir Dubchinyakov and Artyom Gladyshev did not enter the ring; In the main battle of the tournament, Hasan defeated Oleg Zhmuru due to the recall of his opponent in the second round and became the two-time Russian champion among juniors. In June, the Russian boxer won another international tournament - the Brandenburg Cup, and in August he took off at the Junior European Championships in Dublin. Gimbatov successively defeated the Hungarian Ignaz Tallosi (due to a clear advantage in the second round), German boxer Florian Schulz (due to a clear advantage in the first round) and Bogdan Blazhko from Ukraine (on points, 17: 8). In the fight for the “gold”, Hasan defeated the Azerbaijani Heydar Kheidarov in view of the recall of the opponent in the second round and won the highest award of the continental championship. In November, Gimbatov participated in the Russian championship among boxers under the age of 22, starting his performance in the quarterfinals. Having won against Stepan Vinnikov (by points, 20: 6), Hasan lost to Andrei Afonin in the semifinals (by points, 16:18) and won the bronze medal of the tournament [11] [12] [13] [14] [15] .

In November 2013, for the first time he became the champion of Russia in boxing in weight over 91 kg, taking the title from Magomed Omarov [16] .

In August 2014, he again won the Russian boxing championship [17] .

In June 2015, he won a silver medal at the 1st European Games in Baku in the final losing to the British boxer Joseph Joyce [18] .

Professional career

On July 8, 2017, he began his professional boxing career, beating by technical knockout in the first round of the Uzbek boxer Farrukh Madaminov (3-5-1) [19] .

On December 15, 2017, Gimbatov in his first long 6-round fight in the professionals was first defeated by a separate decision of the judge (score: 58-56, 56-58, 56-58). It was originally planned that he would meet with the 23-year-old unbeaten Belgian puncher Roberto Secola (7-0, 7 KOs) [20] , but shortly before the fight, the opponent changed and Gimbatov went into battle against an experienced and fast Belarusian boxer - Yuri Bykhovtsov (9- 14-3, 5 KO) , usually acting in the 1st heavy weight (up to 91 kg). As a result, Bykhovtsov, inferior in size due to active movement, went to the middle and near distances, where he worked in series. If in the initial rounds Gimbatov tried to keep the nimble opponent at arm's length, from the middle of the battle he took the fight at distances convenient for the opponent. The Belarusian boxer threw more punches and was more accurate, while Hasan often defended himself - tightly overlapping with a block and leaning low. In the last round, Gimbatov took advantage of his physical strengths and started throwing tight, punctuated blows, but that wasn’t enough. And according to the judges, Yuri Bykhovtsov won by a separate decision: two considered 58-56 for Bykhovtsov, while judge Viktor Panin saw Gimbatov's victory with a score of 58-56 [21] . After the fight, Hasan Gimbatov said that “he could not give all the 100 percent in the ring, but he also did not lose for sure” [22] .
