Biography

Born September 7, 1918 in Zolotonosha.

In 1940 he graduated from the Physics and Mathematics Department of Kharkov State University , his course was outstanding: B.I. Verkin (founder and director of the Kharkov Physical-Technical Institute of Low Temperatures) studied with him, physicist B. G. Dubrovsky , M. F. Stelmakh (creator of the Soviet laser industry) [1] . He worked at the Kharkov Institute of Physics and Technology (1946-2005), part-time at Kharkov State University (1949-1972). Professor of Kharkov University (1963).

Major works

Together with A.I. Akhiezer, he discovered beam-plasma instability (1948), variable-phase focusing in accelerators (1953); together with N. A. Khizhnyak, parametric Cherenkov radiation (1957) and radiation in artificial anisotropic dielectrics ; together with the staff of a beam-plasma discharge and beam heating (1960-1962). Together with G.I. Budker and V.I. Veksler, he laid the foundations of collective methods for accelerating charged particles (1956).
