History of the House of Culture

In 1928, the engineer I.A. Burlakov built the Soviet Trade Service Club. The architect B. A. Gordeev worked on the club’s interior. The building became the third Novosibirsk house of culture that appeared in the second half of the 1920s. [2]

In 1934, the Club of Counselors was renamed the Stalin Club. In the same year, the Second Regional Meeting of collective farmers and drummers of Western Siberia took place in the club, in which M. I. Kalinin took part, who awarded the Order of Lenin to Siberian workers who were able to overfulfill the delivery of bread for the country [1] .

From 1941 to 1944, the Leningrad Symphony Orchestra evacuated to Novosibirsk was in the building. In 1942, here - for the first time beyond the Urals - the seventh symphony of D. D. Shostakovich was performed. At the concert was the author himself. Before the orchestra began, the famous musicologist I. I. Sollertinsky read the opening speech [1] .

Also during the war, the Puppet Theater of S. V. Obraztsov was located in the house of culture.

In 1961, the club received a new name - “The House of Culture named after the October Revolution”, which was unofficially abbreviated as “Cobra” (later the same name passed to the business center attached to the building).

In the 1990s, the building became the property of the Committee on Culture of the Administration of the Novosibirsk Region.

Currently, 12 organizations are located in the building of the house of culture, including the Novosibirsk State Theater Institute , theater and dance studios.
