Qualification

Qualification for the women's volleyball tournament of the Games of the XXXI Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro was held from August 22, 2015 to May 22, 2016.

Qualification System

In the qualifying tournaments organized by the International Volleyball Federation and its regional confederations, 11 participants of the Olympic Games are identified. The Brazilian national team representing the host country of the Games did not participate in the qualification.

The first two tickets to the Olympic tournament were played at the World Cup in Japan . The next selection stage was four continental qualification tournaments, the winners of which also received the right to play at the Olympics. Five more trips to Rio de Janeiro 2016 were played in tournaments of the International Volleyball Federation - world, combined with Asian and intercontinental.

European Qualification Tournament

The tournament, which was held in the Bashkent Hall in Ankara , was attended by the Turkish national team and 7 teams rated by the European Volleyball Confederation , formed after the European Championship [2] : Russia (1), Italy (2), Germany (5), Netherlands (6), Belgium (7), Poland (8), Croatia (9).

The Russian team won a ticket to the Olympic Games. The Netherlands and Italy got the right to play in the world qualification tournament.

The US team won a ticket to the Olympic Games. The national team of the Dominican Republic got the right to play in the world qualification tournament, the team of Puerto Rico - in the intercontinental qualification tournament.

Individual prizes : the most successful - Karina Ocacio (Puerto Rico), the best in the submission - Hina Mambru (Dominican Republic), at the reception - Kelsey Robinson (USA), in the defense - Brenda Castillo (Dominican Republic), binder - Elisha Glass (USA ), diagonal - Nicole Fawcett (USA), gamers - Jordan Larson (USA) and Stephanie Inright (Puerto Rico), central blockers - Lucille Charuk (Canada) and Tetori Dixon (USA), libero - Zhenya Guimon (Canada). MVP - Nicole Fawcett (USA).

African Qualification Tournament

The tournament was held in Yaoundé with the participation of 7 teams.

World Qualification Tournament

The world qualification tournament in Tokyo , combined with Asian qualifications, was attended by 8 teams - the Japanese team, three teams of the Asian Confederation of Volleyball in world rankings, second teams in North American and South American qualifying tournaments, the second and third teams in Europe.

Permits for the Olympic Games were received by the best of the Asian Volleyball Confederation teams and three strongest teams among the other participants.

Kenya also announced a refusal [5] , but changed its mind after the International Volleyball Federation guaranteed financial assistance in arranging a flight to Puerto Rico [6] .
