Simeon (Popovich)

Bishop Simeon Popović ( Serb. Bishop Simeon Popovi ; April 20, 1874 , Liešić , Bosnia - October 21, 1939 , ) tip ) - Bishop of the Serbian Orthodox Church , Bishop of Zletovsky-Strumichi .

Biography

He graduated from elementary school in Dervent, a gymnasium in Sremsky Karlovtsy . In 1904 he graduated from the Theological Faculty of Chernivtsi University with a doctorate in theology [1] [2] .

At the end of his studies, he was appointed teacher of the Theological Seminary in Relev, and three years later, as the law teacher in Sarajevo. In 1909 he was appointed professor of theological seminary at Relev [1] .

As a prominent church-national figure who, in addition to his usual duties for a long time edited the Bosnian-Herzegovina journal "Source", Archimandrite Simeon was nominated as a candidate for the post of Metropolitan of Banaluksko-Bihachsky, and then Metropolitan of Zvornik-Tuzlan, but the Austro-Hungarian authorities rejected his candidacy [1] .

During the First World War he was convicted as a treason, after which he spent 2 years in prison. Upon leaving prison, the Austrian authorities forbade him to engage in teaching activities. He served as a parish priest in the Black Meadow [1] .

Then he served as a law teacher in Brcko and Sarajevo , a member of the commission for improving church legislation in Belgrade (1919-1921).

From January 13, 1921 to October 8, 1923 he served as an assistant to the rector of the Theological Seminary in Prizren [2] , and in 1924 he was appointed rector of this seminary. He served in this position until his election as bishop of Zletovsky-Strumichsky [1] .

September 16, 1934 in the St. Nicholas Cathedral Church in Sremski Karlovtsy was ordained bishop of Zletovsky-Strumichi [1] .

He died on October 21, 1939 in Shtip and is buried in the church of the Holy Archangels in Shtip [1] .
