He studied at the Kiev gymnasium of the Society of parents and teachers (he graduated from the 7th grade in 1920). In 1920-1921 served in the Red Army (communications battalion of the Kiev fortified area).

In 1921 he entered the Kiev Polytechnic Institute at the Faculty of Chemistry, then transferred to the Institute of Public Education at the Physical Department of the Physics and Mathematics Faculty, which he graduated at the end of 1924.

Since February 1, 1925 he worked at the Kiev X-ray Institute: X-ray physicist of the physical department, senior physicist (1927), head. X-ray dosimetry laboratory (1928-1930), scientific secretary (1929-1930). At the same time, he gave lectures on x-ray physics for employees, supervised graduate students and taught electrophysics at advanced courses of physiotherapists.

Since September 1930 - at the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute : Senior Physicist, Head. Department of General Physics.

Since 1935, candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, associate professor of LFTI and professor of the Leningrad Industrial Institute.

From 1937 to 1939 the head. Laboratory No. 16 of the Research Institute No. 8 of the People's Commissariat of the Defense Industry.

Since 1939 he was enlisted in the Red Army for the position of head. Department of Physics at the Military Electrotechnical Academy. At the same time he continued to teach - and from 1937 until the day of his death he headed the Department of Experimental Physics of the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute (his predecessors in this position were V.V. Skobeltsyn and A.F. Ioffe , and the successors Yu. I. Ukhanov and V.F. Masters )

In 1940 he defended his doctoral dissertation "Electrical properties of semiconductors."

In 1941-1943 in evacuation in Tomsk.

In 1947, Mr .. dismissed from military service and was appointed deputy director of LFTI (until 1957).

The 1964 Lenin Prize - for participating in fundamental research that led to the creation of a semiconductor quantum generator.

USSR State Prize of 1974.

He was awarded the Orders of Lenin (1953), Red Star (1944) and many medals. Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the RSFSR (1964).

Suddenly died on January 8, 1975 from coronary heart disease.
