“Don't Dream It's Over” is a song recorded by Australian rock band Crowded House from their 1986 debut studio album Crowded House . Don't Dream It's Over reached the first place in the charts of Canada and New Zealand, the second place in the US charts ( Hot 100 ) and won the 1987 MTV Video Music Awards [1] [2] .

History
In 1987, the single debuted at No. 85 and then climbed to No. 2 in the main American hit chart Billboard Hot 100 , having stayed on this multi-format chart for 24 weeks in 1986-1987, and also reached No. 9 in Adult Contemporary [3] . The video “Don’t Dream It's Over” received 3 nominations for the 1987 MTV Video Music Awards in the categories of Best Debutant Video (which he won), Best Video Directing and Best Group Video [4] [5] [6] .
In May 2001, the Australasian Performing Rights Association (APRA), celebrating its 75th anniversary, named Best New Zealand and Best Australian songs of all time according to the APRA poll. “Don't Dream It's Over” took second place in New Zealand [7] and No. 7 in Australia [8] .
Cover versions of this song were recorded by many musicians: Paul Young (in 1991 took 20th place in the British chart), Catherine Wood [9] , Sixpence None the Richer (in 2003 took 9th place in the US Billboard Adult Top 40) , Donnie Osmond (recorded on his 2003 album), [10] Teddy Thompson [11] , Josh Klingofffer , Faith No More , Paul Schaffer , Stacy & The Kid in an episode of the Kids Incorporated music program [12] , Howie Day , Aiden Grimshaw [13] , Susan Boyle (the song was recorded on her 2010 album The Gift ; loved ones from the audience said this was Susan's favorite song of all time) [14] , Hitomi Yaida [15] , G4 [16] and Diane Kroll ( The writing in 2015 on her album a Wallflower ) [17] . In 2006, Sarah Blasco sang this song at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne [18] .
On June 4, 2017, at the One Love Manchester concert dedicated to the victims of the Manchester terrorist attack , the song “Don't Dream It's Over” was sung by American singers Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande [19] [20] [21] .
