Patriarch Dionysius ( Greek Πατριάρχης Διονύσιος Α΄ ; until 1410, Dimitsana, Peloponnesus - 1492 , Constantinople ) - Archbishop of Constantinople - New Rome and the Ecumenical Patriarch . He occupied the patriarchal throne twice - from about 1466 to 1471 and from July 1488 to 1490. Revered in the face of saints .

Biography
Born in Dimitsan, Peloponnese . In 1440, he was a monk at the Constantinople Monastery of Mangan and a novice of the bishop of Ephesus, Mark Eugenics , who ordained him to the priesthood. During the conquest of the city (1453) captured by the Turks, but soon was bought by a rich Greek. In 1455 he was ordained by Patriarch of Constantinople Gennady II Scholarius to the rank of Philipopol bishop [1] . In 1466 with the support of Mary Brankovich himself becomes the patriarch. In 1470 Kiev Metropolitan Gregory the Bulgarian returned from the union. In 1471 Dionysius was excommunicated from the throne and retired to the monastery Kushnitsa. His remains are kept there until now. The church honors him as a saint and celebrates his memory on November 23.
