Biography
In 1953 he graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the Azerbaijan Polytechnic Institute, in 1959 - graduate school of the Institute of Architecture and Art of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR. In 1963 he defended his PhD, and in 1979 - his doctoral dissertation, in 1990 he was awarded the academic title of professor. In 1989, he was elected a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, and in 2014 - a full member of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, specializing in architecture.
- 1954-1956 - at the Baku State Design Institute,
- 1956-1988 - at the Institute of Architecture and Art of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR: Junior Researcher, Senior Researcher and Laboratory Head,
- 1988-1993 - Director of the Institute of Architecture and Art of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.
Since 1993 - Head of the Department of History and Theory of Architecture, Urban Planning of the Institute of Architecture and Art of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.
He is the founder of a scientific school in the study of the history of Azerbaijani architecture and urban planning in the XIX-XX centuries, he conducted a large research work in the field of the history of architecture of the city of Baku. He played a significant role in the discovery of many architectural monuments, approved as state reserves.
He prepared 15 doctors of philosophy and 4 doctors of sciences. The author of more than 100 publications and 9 monographs on the main architectural styles and national architectural traditions. The “Architectural Encyclopedia of Baku” and a number of other fundamental works of the scientist were translated into foreign languages. Among them: “The architecture of urban planning of Baku at the beginning of the 19th-20th centuries”, “Urban planning and architecture of Azerbaijan of the 19th-early 20th centuries”, “Mosques of Azerbaijan”, “The cities of Iran of the Khajarov era”, “Encyclopedia of architecture of Baku”, “Absheron architecture ".
Awards and titles
Winner of the State Prize of Azerbaijan, Honored Architect of Azerbaijan, awarded the Order of Shokhrat (2000).
