Ivan Ivanovich Veitskovsky ( Ukrainian: Veitskіvsky ; 03/12/1900, Cherkassy - 02/11/1977, Lviv ) - Soviet historian of antiquity. Dr. sciences (1961), professor (1962) [1] . Professor of Lviv University (since 1960).

Biography

Born in the family of an accountant and a housewife.

He graduated from the full eight-year course of the Cherkasy gymnasium, where he studied in 1910-19. In 1919-20 studied at the University of Dnepropetrovsk. In the years 1921-22. studied at the Cherkasy Pedagogical Institute. In 1932 he graduated in absentia from the German State Institute in Engels .

In 1920-22. served in the Red Army . In 1923-1931 was the director of the school in Ukraine. In the years 1931-33. taught in Sverdlovsk at a technical school and university.

In 1933 he was enrolled in the graduate school of the Moscow Institute of Fine Arts , but on the trail the year entered the graduate school of MIFLI in the specialization of ancient history (scientific director V. S. Sergeev ), where he studied in 1934-37. and defended the cand. diss. "The revolt of slaves in Italy and Sicily in the II and I centuries. BC e. "(1937).

Since 1937 in Saratov , where he was sent at the end of graduate school and from September. In 1937 he taught at the university, where from the same month to January 1941 he headed the department of the history of the ancient world, assistant professor (approved by the Higher Attestation Commission 1938).

Since 1941, he worked at MIFLI, and then - with his association with Moscow State University - there. Since 1943, a doctoral candidate at the Institute of History of the USSR Academy of Sciences.

In 1944-1971 headed the department of the history of the ancient world and the Middle Ages (until 1949 - the history of the ancient world and archeology) of Lviv State University. From 1960 until the end of his life, he was a professor in this department.

In 1960, he defended his doctoral dissertation at the Lviv State University in the 3rd century BC. BC e. (to the history of international relations in the ancient world in 282–219 BC). ”

He was a member of the editorial board of the Bulletin of the Lviv State University. Author of 1 monograph and articles. He published his works in Ukrainian.

He was married, had children.
