Ramachandra Guha ( Hindi रामचंद्र गुहा , born April 29, 1958 ) is an Indian historian and writer specializing in the history of society, politics, ecology and cricket . He also maintains a column, which is published in six languages, in a magazine with an audience of 20 million people. His books and essays are published in more than twenty languages. The New York Times called it “perhaps the best among Indian non-fiction writers,” and Time magazine called it “an outstanding chronicler of Indian democracy.” [2] Currently residing in Bangalore .

Early Years and Education
Born April 29, 1958 in Dehradun , Uttarakhand State. His father, Ram Das Guha, was the director of the Forestry Research Institute. Ramachandra attended Dong Boys School, where he was the editor of the school weekly. In 1977, he graduated from St. Stephen's College in Delhi and received a bachelor's degree in economics. He continued his education at the School of Economics in Delhi, where he was awarded a master's degree. Then he entered the Indian Institute of Management in Calcutta , where he studied the social history of forestry in Uttarakhand, and he was especially interested in the Chipko movement. Later, his research was published in the book “Restless Forests” ( Eng. Unquiet Woods , 1989).
Teacher career
Ramachandra taught at Yale and Stanford universities, was chairman of Arné Naess at the University of Oslo , and a visiting professor at the Indo-American Community at the University of California. In 2011-2012. He was a professor of history and international relations at the London School of Economics [2] .

- Gandhi Before India (Knopf, 2014) is the book of the year according to the New York Times.

- In 2008 and 2013, Prospect magazine named Guha one of the most influential intellectuals.
- In 2011 he received the Sahitya Akademi Award for the best book in English ( India After Gandhi ) [5]
- In 2014, he was awarded an honorary doctorate in humanities from Yale University [2]
