293rd Fighter Aviation Regiment

The 293rd Fighter Aviation Regiment ( 293rd IAP ) is a military unit of the Air Force of the Red Army, which took part in the hostilities of the Great Patriotic War .

Create

The 293rd Fighter Aviation Regiment began to be formed in February 1941 in the Odessa Military District at the Teplitsa airfield as part of the 65th Fighter Aviation Division of the Odessa Military District on the basis of the Order of the Non-Profit Organization of the USSR [1]

Disbandment of the Regiment

In January 1946, due to reductions, the 293rd Fighter Aviation Regiment was disbanded along with the 185th Iad as part of the 14th Riga Fighter Aviation Corps of the 15th Air Army of the Baltic Military District [2] [3]

The regiment’s first known air victory in World War II was won on October 12, 1941: senior lieutenant Mikhin Y. F. in an air battle in the Podberezye area shot down a German Me-109 fighter .
