Diyala [1] [2] ( Arabic: نهر ديالى ), also Abe Sirvan [3] is a river in Iraq , a tributary of the Tigris River. Length - 231 [4] km. The basin area is over 30 thousand [4] km². The average annual discharge in the lower reaches is 130 [4] m³ / s.

Formed at the confluence of the Sirvan River with the Elvend River at an altitude of 113 m num [5] . It has a right tributary - the river Alvand .
Diyalu is blocked by the Mukdadi Dam [6] . It falls into the Tiger south of Baghdad . Diyala can be used for shipping.
History
According to Herodotus , during the campaign to Babylon in 539 BC. e. the Persian king Cyrus II the Great ordered to temporarily stop the offensive and, using the construction of canals, “punish”, that is, wipe off the face of the earth, the river Diyala, in which the sacred white horse drowned.
