History

The name is probably associated with the estate Grachevka [4] . The names Chernava, Chernavka, usually corresponding to the dark color of water [4] , could arise due to confusion with another Khimki tributary, Chernushka [2] .

Before the urban development of the territory, on the left bank of the river there were settlements Barashki and Butakovo, and near the mouth there was the village of Alyoshkino [2] .

Description

The river begins on the northwestern outskirts of the city of Khimki and flows under the city in a collector. The Barashkinsky pond in Khimki has been preserved, located on the river, above and below it, it is in the collector. In the upper reaches, the Grachevka valley is connected with the Burtsevskaya hollow, belonging to the Klyazma basin. It is likely that thawed glacial waters broke through the watershed from the north through this hollow [2] .
