Biography

Early life, education, and career

Keith Bond was born in St. Louis , Missouri , into the family of Elizabeth (née Greene) and Arthur Bond. [1] His father was captain of the Missouri Tigers football team in 1924 and received a Rhodes scholarship . His maternal grandfather, A.P. Green, founded AP Green Industries , a manufacturer of refractory clay, and for many years was the largest employer in , Missouri.

In 1956, Bond graduated from , in 1960 - Princeton University and in 1963 - Law School of the University of Virginia [2] . From 1963 to 1964, Bond served as a court clerk at the Honorable Elbert Tuttle , and then as a senior judge in the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta , Georgia . From 1964-1967, he practiced law at Covington & Burling in Washington .

Political career

In 1969, Missouri Attorney General appointed Bond his deputy, and in 1970, the 31-year-old Bond was elected Missouri State Auditor.

In 1972, Bond won the election of state governor with 55% of the vote. He became the youngest ever Governor of Missouri [2] [3] (33 years old) and the first Republican Governor in 28 years. In 1976, Bond, with a slight lag, lost the next election to Democrat , Jackson County Attorney, but in 1980 he returned to the post of governor, winning primaries from current Vice Governor and general election against Joseph Tisdale [2] ] .

After Senator decided not to run for the next term, Bond was elected Senator in 1986 [3] , winning the election of Vice Governor (53% and 47% of the vote, respectively). On January 8, 2009, Bond announced that he would not be re-elected for a fifth term in the US Senate in November 2010 [4] .

After his departure from the Senate, Bond became a partner in the law firm Thompson Coburn [5] . In November 2011, Bond opened his own company Kit Bond Strategies [6] .

Personal life

In 1994, Bond's first wife, Carolyn, filed for divorce, and the next year they were divorced. In 2002, he married Linda Pell. She grew up in Kansas City and works as a consultant to the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

Keith Bond's son, Sam, is a US Marine Corps officer who returned from a second trip to Iraq in the fall of 2007.

In 2009, Bond, co-authored with Lewis Simons, published The Next Front: Southeast Asia and the Road to Global Peace with Islam ([Next front: Southeast Asia and the path to global peace with Islam ”) [7] .

Bond has impaired vision in one eye, which he attributes to amblyopia that was not diagnosed in childhood [8] .
