Content
Story
March 18, 1965. In the space race, the USSR is still ahead of the United States of America , but the Americans are already preparing a flight to the moon, and the USSR should be ahead - the Soviet cosmonauts should be the first to go into outer space and report this success to the whole world live.
Cosmonauts Pavel Belyaev and Alexei Leonov have been approved for the role of pioneers. There is very little time left to build the Voskhod-1 and Voskhod-2 spacecraft, to debug technology and to train astronauts, the test ship exploded in the atmosphere, and so the launch of Voskhod-2 carries a great risk. However, the astronauts insist on their full physical readiness and convince the management that it is necessary to take risks.
Permission to launch Voskhod-2 has been obtained, the ship successfully entered orbit, but in order to complete the mission and return home alive, the astronauts will have to go through difficult trials: Alexei Leonov’s spacesuit inflated in open space, oxygen poisoning due to the sensor’s triggering, manual descent from orbits with landing in an unplanned area in the Urals and survival in the harsh Perm forest.

Creation
It was originally planned that the film will be directed by Sergei Bodrov Sr. , and the film itself will be released in the spring of 2016 [2] . Alexei Leonov himself became a consultant to the picture.
In 2015, the project received financial assistance from the “ Cinema Fund ” on an irrevocable and repayable basis [6] , and Alfa-Bank [7] also provided financial assistance. The film was shot in two stages: from July 1, filmed in the pavilions and in summer nature [8] , in November - space shooting and landing of astronauts in the taiga [9] .
Initially, the film was directed by Yuri Bykov , but when the film was already ready for two-thirds, he was removed from the project by producers Timur Bekmambetov and Evgeny Mironov [10] . According to Bykov himself, the producers “didn’t see a movie that could be sold” and wanted a more spectacular movie. After that, work on the film was continued by Dmitry Kiselev [11] . He completely re-shot the picture, leaving only a couple of short episodes from Bykov’s material [12] .
Rental
The film premiered on April 6, 2017. For its successful release on the screens, the Ministry of Culture of Russia proposed moving the premiere of the movie " Fast and the Furious 8 ", but in the end the largest movie networks pledged to give the domestic premiere 35% of the sessions for 2 weeks rental [7] .
In the first weekend, the film raised more than 150 million rubles, although the industry was counting on more (“ Film Distributor Bulletin ” called the sum of 280 million rubles, and the cinema network - 350-370 million rubles [7] ). This weekend turned out to be the worst for cinemas according to the “Film Distributor’s Bulletin” since the end of September 2016, and according to cinemas for several years. The average occupancy rate in the First Time sessions was 18 people, inferior to other major domestic releases (“ Attraction ” - 46, “ 28 Panfilovites ” - 39, “ Defenders ” - 30 [7] ). At the same time, according to the results of the second rental weekend, the film bypassed the “Defenders” in general fees in Russia and showed better results than the other two named films in the same period [13] .
According to the results of the rental, the film collected 561 million rubles with a budget of 400 million [14] , which many analysts regard as a box office failure [15] [16] , since the distributor receives only half the fees. However, the film still has a rental abroad. According to the Roskino company, Vremya Pervykh is among the 2017 Russian films, the rights to which were most often bought by foreign distributors [17] .
Reviews
The film received mainly positive reviews from critics in such publications as Arguments and Facts [18] , Film.ru [19] Rossiyskaya Gazeta [20] , InterMedia [21] , Kommersant [22] and others. According to Megacritic, the average film score was 76 out of 100 (based on 25 reviews), according to Criticism.ru - 75 out of 100 (based on 39 reviews).
About the "First Time" they wrote:

Some critics rated the film as average (“ Sovereign film, straightforward, like a trajectory of flight into space ” [25] , “ Carefully and accurately prevented a quality picture, the desire to please everyone at once ” [1] ), but sharply negative reviews of the film data aggregators were not.
Cosmonautics historian Anton Pervushin noted in the film a number of discrepancies with real history: in particular, the absence of Yuri Gagarin , who also participated in the preparation of the flight, and fictional episodes added for the sake of drama. However, he also admitted that "the spectacle turned out spectacular " [26] .
The original director of the film, Yuri Bykov, noted in an interview that he did not watch this film and did not feel like watching it because of, as he knows, a complete change in history, which was originally more radical, because of the simplification of the complex, primarily from a “human point of view” view ”of the film’s orientation towards absolute patriotism with the right heroes, as well as due to the orientation to the audience“ to put it mildly, the Auchan level ”, like other rental films. Bykov pointed out that, as far as he knew, after his departure, the film was completely re-shot, with the possible exception of one scene that could not be repeated due to unrecoverable scenery [27] .
