Collars (settlement)

Collars - one of the Moscow settlements . Existed in the XVI - XVII centuries. within the limits of the modern Tver region [1] .

The collar was inhabited by the watchman of the Moscow fortress gates, whose number grew along with the expansion of the Moscow fortifications. The memory of the settlement is kept in the name of Vorotnikovsky lane [1] .

By the beginning of the 17th century, Moscow had acquired powerful fortifications, which consisted of four lines - the Kremlin , China Town , the White City and the Earthen City . Within their walls were about thirty gates with gate towers. The guard who carried the guard at the gates and in the towers was called collars. There is also a version that the so-called members of the gun crew were called, who raised a protective shield - the β€œgate” before the shot from the gun [1] .

When accepting new collars for service, they were led β€œto faith”, they took an oath not to take bribes, to observe discipline and loyalty to the sovereign. In the settlement of collars was the parish church of St. Pimen "in the Old Collars." The first mention of it dates from the end of the XVI century, in 1682 it was rebuilt in stone. The settlement itself Collars was later moved to the outskirts of Moscow and has since been called the New Collars [2] .
