Biography
Sergey Ganeshin was born in Moscow on November 26, 1879 . He studied at the natural department of the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of Moscow University , graduated in 1902, after which he was left at the faculty to prepare for the professorship. He studied under Professor Ivan Nikolaevich Gorozhankin .
Since 1905, Sergey Sergeevich worked at the New Alexandria Institute of Agriculture and Forestry as an assistant. In 1911, he moved to St. Petersburg , becoming an assistant at St. Petersburg University and the Forest Institute. Since 1913, Ganeshin was also an employee of the Botanical Museum of the Academy of Sciences.
In 1909, Ganeshin went on an expedition to the Angara-Ilim Territory, in 1914 - to the Ulutau Ridge. Sergey Sergeyevich was a professor at the Leningrad Agricultural Institute , as well as an assistant professor at Leningrad University . Between 1921 and 1926, the scientist led a series of studies in the Volkhov and Ilmen valleys, carried out with the aim of preparing the construction of the Volkhov hydroelectric station .
In 1930, he headed the botanical detachment of the Kola expedition of the USSR Academy of Sciences. On the last day of the unit’s field work, on August 30, 1930 , on Mount Vudyavrchorr, lost its way in the fog, followed by a blizzard. He died from a sudden cardiac arrest. Ganeshin's circus on this mountain is named after the botanist. At the foot of Wudyavrchorra in 1931, the Polar-Alpine Botanical Garden Institute was founded.
