The 176th fighter aviation regiment began to form on March 27, 1941 in the Moscow military district at the Lyubertsy airfield as part of the 24th fighter air division of the MVO Air Force on the basis of the 11th, 16th, 24th and 34th IAPs as part of the 5th ty squadrons.
