Leontiev, Oleg Konstantinovich

Born February 19, 1920 in the village of Uyar, Krasnoyarsk Territory . In 1938 he entered the geographical faculty of Moscow State University, which he graduated 10 years later, in 1948 due to a break caused by participation in the Great Patriotic War, where he served in car repair units ^[2] and was awarded the medal “For the victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War” the war of 1941-1945. "

In 1952 he defended his thesis, in 1953 he was an assistant professor, in 1957 he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic “Geomorphology of the sea coast and bottom”.

In 1960 - professor, in 1961-1986 - head of the Department of Geomorphology of the Faculty of Geography ^[1] .

He died on December 13, 1988 in Moscow, was buried at the Nikolo-Arkhangelsk cemetery ^[2] .

• He was awarded the medal "For the victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945."
• Prize winner D.N. Anuchin (1972, 1981).
• Honored Scientist of the RSFSR (1980).
• In 1993, a seamount in the Pacific Ocean was named after Oleg Konstantinovich (coordinates 23є 26 '24 "S, 83є 19' 18" W) ^[1] .

The main scientific works are devoted to geomorphology and classification of sea coasts and the bottom of the oceans (“Pacific Ocean”, “Indian Ocean”, “Atlantic Ocean”, “Physical Geography of the World Ocean”, etc.), geomorphological mapping technique. Founder of the school of marine geomorphologists. The largest specialist in the geomorphology of the coast and bottom of the Caspian Sea and the history of its development (works “The Caspian Sea”, “Geomorphology of the coast and bottom of the Caspian Sea”).
