Slow Down is a song by American actress and singer Selena Gomez , released as the second single from her debut solo album Stars Dance . It was released on June 3, 2013 through digital distribution during pre-order of the disc. Hollywood Records sent the song to the radio as the last single from the album until August 13th. The producers were The Cataracs and David Kutsio. The composition contains elements of electronic dance music. The song sings about slowing down life, about living in one magical moment on the dance floor.

Musical critics expressed mixed reviews about the song, noting that the song is attractive and well-produced, noticed the influence of electronic dance music. The single had good positions in the charts, in particular, in Belgium the song reached the second line, and the twentieth place in Russia and South Korea. In the United States, the song received platinum status, with a print run of over 1 million copies nationwide. In the chart of pop songs, the single hit the top ten, reaching seventh position.
The video for the song was produced by Philippe Endelman and filmed in Paris, France. In the video, Selena rides in a car, dances in a club and walks through the streets of the city. There are also many live performances with the song, including Good Morning America, The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, Late Night With David Letterman and in the UK on Surprise, Surprise . The composition was performed as the final one at her concerts on the Stars Dance Tour .

On June 3, 2013, during her YouTube chat, Selena announced that her new album would be called Stars Dance, and also introduced the cover and track list [1] . During the chat, Gomez also announced the release of her second single, Slow Down, and said that it would be available along with pre-order of the album. On August 13, 2013, the song was sent to radio stations, and the same week a mini-album of remixes was released on Amazon.com [2] . On September 6, a mini-album with the songs “Lover In Me” and “I Like It That Way”, as well as a remix of Come & Get It was released on iTunes in several countries, including Brazil, Vietnam and Norway [3] . In the UK, the collection was released on December 8 [4] .
The song was written by Linda Robbins, Julia Michelle, The Cataracs, David Kutzio and Freddy Wexler, produced by The Cataracs and Kuzio.
Perception
Critics' ratings
Billboard Andrew Hump called the track “a song for foam parties, pseudo-dubstep” and “not too naughty for Disney” [5] . Rolling Stone 's Carey Gans noted that the Gomez producers “finally gave her hard bits” and that “this song is ripe for remixes” [6] . August Brown of the Los Angeles Times wrote that "the song is matched to today's pop electronic fashion, but is generally very attractive." [7]
Chart Positions
After the release and pre-order of the Stars Dance album, the track took a good position on the charts around the world. In Australia, the song took 91st place, and Austria for 71 in two weeks. In Billboard Hot 100, the song took 27th line [8] . In July 2015, the single received platinum certification in the United States [9] .
Video clip
The video for the song was shot in Paris in May 2013 [10] . It became available online July 19, 2013, and later Selena uploaded it to her account on VEVO [11] . The car in which Gomez rides in the tunnel at the beginning of the clip resembles the scene of the accident and the death of Princess Diana [12] . In the club, Selena, instead of dancers, is lit by neon lights, dancing, and also walking along the street [13] .
Clip Opinions
MuchMusic blogger noted that the clip is similar to the early work of Britney Spears, Janet Jackson and Jennifer Lopez [14] .
