The Academic Russian Drama Theater of Uzbekistan is one of the oldest theaters in Uzbekistan , established in 1934; in 1967 the theater was awarded the honorary title of academic . The new theater building, located in the very center of Tashkent , was solemnly opened in 2001.

Theater History
The Tashkent Russian Drama Theater was opened on October 21, 1934. Its founders are Vasily Alexandrovich Chirkin, the first artistic director of the theater, and Mikhail Karlovich Vulkonsky. In 1936, the theater was named after the Russian writer Maxim Gorky .
In 1967, the theater was awarded the honorary title "Academic Theater".
Over the years, performances based on plays by famous Russian and foreign playwrights were staged on the stage: A. S. Pushkin , N. V. Gogol , A. N. Tolstoy , M. Yu. Lermontov , A. P. Chekhov , A. S. Griboyedov , A. N. Ostrovsky , B. Shaw , A. M. Gorky , W. Shakespeare and many others; Uzbek writers - Khamza , N. Safarov, A. Kakhhara , S. Azimov , M. Sheikhzade, S. Ahmad, T. Zulfikarov and Alisher Navoi [1] .
On February 7, 2001, the grand opening of a new theater building took place in the center of the city of Tashkent [2] .
On December 26, 2014, the 80th anniversary of the theater was celebrated with the active participation of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Uzbekistan [3] [4] .
The Academic Russian Drama Theater of Uzbekistan plays an important role in preserving and spreading Russian culture in the region, festive events are held on the theater stage, dedicated to the significant dates of Russian history and the Russian diaspora of Uzbekistan with the participation of Uzbek and Russian performers [5] [6] .
Theater team
The director of the theater is the Honored Artist of Uzbekistan Oleg Anatolyevich Vasilyev, the main director is Bakhtiyar Muhaminovich Khamidov [7] . Among the theater directors are Honored Art Worker of Uzbekistan Vladimir Mikhailovich Shapiro, Honored Worker of Culture of Uzbekistan Vyacheslav Markovich Brodyansky, Honored Art Worker of Uzbekistan Ovlyakuli Khodjakuli, Honored Art Worker of Uzbekistan Olimjon Salimov [8] .
The main actors of the theater are People’s Artist of Uzbekistan Abzal Azimovich Rafikov, Honored Artist of Uzbekistan Oleg Anatolyevich Vasilyev, Honored Artist of Uzbekistan Firuz Saadievich Maksudov, Honored Artist of Uzbekistan Oleg Viktorovich Galakhov [9] .
The main theater actresses are Honored Artist of Uzbekistan Lyudmila Ivanovna Stotskaya, Honored Artist of Uzbekistan Eleonora Dmitriyeva, Honored Artist of Uzbekistan Olga Danilovna Ovchinnikova, People's Artist of Uzbekistan Gavkhar Zakirova [10] .
