City of Angels is an American television series created by Stephen Bochko , Paris Barclay and Nicholas Wootton, which aired on CBS from January 16, 2000 to December 21, 2000. It was the first drama series on national television with an almost entirely African-American cast. The plot of the series revolved around the personal and professional lives of doctors and nurses in a hospital in Los Angeles, California. In the series, the main roles were played by Blair Underwood and Vivika A. Fox . Fox left the series after one season and Gabrielle Union later took the lead actress role. [1]

The series was developed by Stephen Bochko amid criticism from African American audiences in the absence of dramas with black actors. The series started on CBS in the middle of the season, in January 2000, with a significant advertising campaign and support from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People [1] . The second season started in the fall, but on November 22, the channel announced the closure of the show, which suffered in the ratings, aired on Thursdays against “ Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” ”And the Must See TV block. At the time of closing, the series averaged 7.4 million viewers [2] .
