Biography
Arne Johan Almelann was born on February 19, 1965 in the city of Bergen, Hordaland province. He began to actively engage in rowing from early childhood, was trained at the local canoe club Fana.
In 1987, he performed at the world championship in Duisburg, Germany, as part of a four-seater crew, which also included the rowers Harald Amundsen , Arne Slätsche and Morten Ivarsen , overtook all his rivals at ten kilometers and thereby won the gold medal.
Being one of the leaders of the Norwegian rowing team, he successfully qualified for the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul - in fours with Ivarsen, Sletshe and Knut Holmann, he managed to reach the semi-finals only a kilometer away, where their crew did not finish. Soon after the end of this Olympics, he decided to end his career as a professional athlete, giving way to young Norwegian rowers in the national team.
