Biography
Harald Amundsen was born on November 30, 1962 in the Berum municipality of Akershus . He began to actively engage in rowing from early childhood, following the example of his older brother Steinar Amundsen , the Olympic champion in 1962. He was trained at the local canoe club “Berum”.
He achieved his first serious success at the adult international level in 1983, when he joined the main team of the Norwegian national team and attended the World Championships in Finnish Tampere, where he brought the silver dignity award won in the classification of four-seat kayaks at a distance of 10,000 meters - only the crew from THE USSR. Thanks to a series of successful performances, he was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles - together with team-mate Einar Rasmussen, he reached the semi-finals at a kilometer distance.
In 1987, Amundsen performed at the world championship in Duisburg, Germany, where he overtook all his rivals in fours of ten kilometers and thereby won a gold medal. Being one of the leaders of the Norwegian rowing team, he successfully qualified for the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul - in doubles together with Svein Egil Solvang reached the finals and showed the eighth result in the decisive race. Soon after the end of this Olympics, he decided to end his career as a professional athlete, giving way to young Norwegian rowers in the national team.
