Distribution

North Africa (Algeria, Egypt, Tunisia), Central Asia (Turkmenistan), the Middle East , Afghanistan , Iran , Oman , Saudi Arabia , the United Arab Emirates [1] .

Description

The body is yellow-brown; head from reddish brown to black. Scapus , cheeks and lower legs without standing hairs. Working ants are 5–9 mm long, females 12–13 mm long, and males 7–8 mm long. Desert view. In Turkmenistan, they live in the foothills of the Kopetdag , on the slopes and scree. The species Camponotus bactrianus, known from Central Asia, was later (Radchenko, 1997) synonymous with Camponotus oasium [2] [3] [1] . The species was first described in 1890 by the Swiss worldmecologist Auguste Trout based on materials from North Africa [4] .
