My grandfather's people

The film takes place in the summer of 1980. 10-year-old Ozan spends his holidays with his parents in a summer house on the seashore near Izmir , and also earns money in a shop with his grandfather Mehmet, a respected elder of the local community. The only thing that violates the idyll is periodically heard voices that the grandfather is not a real Turk, but a “Cretan atheist”. Ozan is very worried about this and conflicts with his elders. The grandfather, wanting to clarify the situation, tells his story: he was born in Crete , but in 1923, at the age of eight, he returned to his homeland during the post-war population exchange , affecting millions of destinies. Heard makes Ozan reconcile with his family. Grandfather Mehmet has long dreamed of visiting the Cretan house where he grew up, and decides to arrange a trip for the whole family. The necessary visas to enter Greece have already been obtained, but all plans are crossed out by a coup d'etat that suddenly broke out in the country ...
