General Information
A single tournament brought together seven of the eight leaders of the championship race at the end of the season. Only Rafael Nadal (No. 3 in the world at that time) could not take part in the tournament [1] Tennis players were divided into two groups, the first were Novak Djokovic , Stanislas Wavrinka , Tomas Berdych and Marine Cilic , and the second was Roger Federer , Kay Nishikori , Andy Murray and Milos Raonic . Tennis players, who took the first two places in their group, reached the semifinals. Also, two tennis players David Ferrer and Feliciano Lopez were spare in case one of the participants was removed from the tournament. As a result, after two defeats in the group, Raonic pulled out of the tournament due to problems with the quadriceps [2] and in the last match he was replaced by David Ferrer. The first seeding number was the leader of the classification and the winner of the last two draws of the tournament Novak Djokovic. Serb eventually managed to defend his title and win the final competition for the third time in a row and the fourth time in his career (he won the final tournament for the first time in 2008). In the final, Djokovic was supposed to meet Roger Federer, but the Swiss withdrew from the tournament before the final due to a back injury in a semifinal match against Stanislas Wavrinka. [3]
In the men's doubles, there were also no surprises. The victory was won by the first seeding numbers and last year's finalists Bob and Mike Brian . In the final, they outplayed Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo . The Brian brothers won the final tournament for the fourth time (before that in 2003, 2004 and in 2009).
