Yuri Isaakovich Kanner (born May 20, 1955 , Kamenny Brod (Baranovsky District), Zhytomyr Region , Ukrainian SSR ) has been a Russian Jewish public figure, entrepreneur , and the 6th President of the Russian Jewish Congress since May 14, 2009.

Family Tree of Family
On the maternal side of the father, the family tree is rooted in the dynasty of the Chernobyl rabbis of Tver . The direct ancestor is the founder of the Makarov dynasty, the holy Rebbe Nachum of Tver of Makarov (1805-1852), the ancestor of the fourth generation of the Chernobyl dynasty. Great-grandfather, great-grandfather and maternal grandfather of his father - Tverskie - buried in Berdichev . Biography
Born in Ukraine in the urban-type settlement of Kamenny Brod, a former Jewish town . In an interview with the Israeli portal IzRus, Yu. I. Kanner said: “I am a Jew from a town whose ancestors died in the Catastrophe ” [2] .
In 1976 he graduated from the Saratov Economic Institute and was assigned to the village of Nizhnyaya Tavda of the Tyumen Region , where he later became deputy chairman of the Bolshevik collective farm, one of the largest in Siberia. [3] [4]
Since 1993 lives in Moscow. Candidate of Economic Sciences.
Business
In the 1990s, he was the general director of Intersplav Interdisciplinary Consortium, CJSC, which was engaged in the construction and restoration of buildings in the center of the capital under investment contracts with the Moscow mayor's office . He is a co-founder of seven companies involved in construction and real estate operations [5] .
Social activities
Yu. I. Kanner is active in social activities.
On May 14, 2009, the Presidium of the Russian Jewish Congress (RJC) approved the candidature of Yu.I. Kanner for the position of president of the organization [6] . Speaking after being elected president of the RJC, Kanner said: “The mission of the Russian Jewish Congress is to contribute to the formation of a pluralistic Jewish community in Russia, which is proud of its past, stands firmly on Russian soil and faces Jerusalem .” According to Kanner, it is extremely important for RJC to develop those programs that would attract new people to community life. He considers the formation of self-governing and self-funded Jewish communities to be one of the main tasks of the Congress.
After the creation of the river in 1996, Yu. I. Kanner became the sixth president of this organization.

Yu. I. Kanner is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Moscow Jewish Religious Community (MERO), which is in charge of the Moscow Choral Synagogue .
He takes an active part in a number of charitable and memorial projects and programs, is the head of international projects “Return Dignity” [8] and “Babi Yars of Russia”, within which work is under way to research mass graves of Holocaust victims.
On September 2, 2009, in Moscow, the chairman of the Jewish Agency (Sohnut) Natan Sharansky and the president of the Russian Jewish Congress (REK), Yuri Kanner, signed an agreement on strategic cooperation in the field of Jewish education in Russia [9] .
