Letna ( Czech Letná ) is a hilly tract in the center of the Czech capital Prague .
Located on the left bank of the river. Vltava opposite the historical district of Prague Stare Mesto near the Stefanik bridge . Under Letna lies the Letensky tunnel .
Together with Holesovice and Bubenec, it is part of the administrative district of Prague 7 .
Letna is known as an urban recreation area. Here is a park, which can be called a slightly ennobled forest. It covers an area of about 3 hectares. In the Middle Ages there were hunting grounds of the local nobility. Letna began to ennoble the territory only at the end of the 19th century, gradually turning the forest into a recreation park for citizens.
Letna is interesting for its beautiful views of the right-bank Prague, the Vltava and its bridges.
Among the sights of Letna: Hanavsky Pavilion - a baroque building that housed the administration of the Anniversary World Fair, a working carousel-attraction - the oldest carousel in Europe, which still operates today, and a huge working metronome .
The Letny Park housed the largest sculptural group in Europe, which was dedicated to the leader of the USSR Joseph Stalin . The Stalin Monument in Prague was unveiled on May 1, 1955 and was located in 1955-1962 on the Letenska Observation Deck. In 1962, the monument was blown up, and the basement has survived to the present. In 1991, a giant metronome was installed on it.
