Initial Biography
Yakov Fedorovich Shabanov was born on November 6, 1904 in the village of Dedkovo now in the Kostroma district of the Kostroma region.
Military Service
Pre-war time
In October 1935 he was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army for party mobilization of the GPU and was appointed assistant military commissar of the 40th Infantry Regiment ( 14th Infantry Division , Moscow Military District ), in February 1936 - to the post of military commissar of a separate tank battalion of the same division , and in August 1937 - to the post of military commissar of the 176th anti-aircraft artillery regiment.
From October to December 1937 he studied at the three-month political development courses at the V.I. Lenin Military-Political School , and in April 1940 he was sent to study at six-month political improvement courses at the F.E.Dzerzhinsky Artillery Academy , after which in December 1940 he was appointed to the post of deputy commander for the political part of the 27th anti-aircraft artillery battalion ( 19th Rifle Corps , Leningrad Military District ).
World War II
With the outbreak of war, Shabanov was in his former position on the Northern Front , which in August 1941 was transformed into Leningradsky .
In December, Shabanov was appointed to the post of senior propaganda instructor at the political department of the 23rd Army , in April 1942 - to the post of head of the political department of the rear units and institutions of the same army, and in August - to the post of military commissar of the Office of the Chief of Artillery of the Army. The 23rd Army conducted defensive military operations on the Karelian Isthmus , and then northwest of Leningrad .
In February 1943 he was appointed to the post of head of the political department and deputy commander for political affairs of the 28th artillery division , in July - to the same position in the 23rd artillery division , and in September - to the post of head of the political department and deputy commander for the political part of the Leningrad counter-battery artillery corps , which in January 1944 was converted into a third artillery breakthrough corps , who took part in the fighting during the Leningrad-Novgorod and Choice SKO-Petrozavodsk offensive operations . In the fall of 1944, the corps administration was in the reserve of the Leningrad Front. From October 30 to November 3, 1944, Yakov Fedorovich Shabanov temporarily served as corps commander. In January 1945, the corps administration was transferred to the 2nd Belorussian Front , after which new units were included in the corps. Soon, the 3rd breakthrough artillery corps took part in the hostilities during the East Prussian , East Pomeranian and Berlin offensive operations .
Post-War Career
After the war, Shabanov was in his former position as part of the Leningrad Military District .
In December 1947, he was sent to study at retraining courses for the political staff at the V.I. Lenin Military-Political Academy , after which in February 1949 he was appointed to the post of head of the political department and deputy political officer of the 9th artillery corps , in January 1954 - to the post of deputy political director of the artillery ammunition department of the Main Artillery Directorate of the Soviet Army .
Colonel Yakov Fedorovich Shabanov in August 1955 left the reserve. He died on May 19, 1956 in Moscow .
