Club career
Marquez began his professional career in 1999 in the club " Villa Clara ", for which he still plays [1] . He won the Cuba championship 5 times with his club: in 2002/2003, 2004/2005, 2010/2011, 2011/2012, 2013. In the course of the 2013 Cuba Championship, Marquez became the league's top scorer with 16 goals. In 2014, he was elected the best player of the year in Cuba [2] . In 2015, he scored 12 goals and became the league's second scorer [3] . In the summer of 2015, Marquez joined the Hoppers Championship Club of Antigua and Barbuda .
Career in the national team
In the Cuban national team, Marquez made his debut on May 7, 2000 in the qualifying match for the 2002 World Cup against Barbados , which ended with a score of 1: 1 [4] . From 2000–2015, he participated in five qualifying tournaments for the World Cup in a row, playing in 19 meetings.
In 2002, Marquez for the first time participated in the CONCACAF Gold Cup . At the tournament, he was a player in the starting lineup and played in both matches against the United States and the Republic of Korea . A year later, Marquez again took part in the Gold Cup, in which he came out in the starting lineup in all three matches with Canada , Costa Rica and the United States. In 2005, he reappeared in the Gold Cup, in which he emerged from the first minutes in all three games against Costa Rica, the United States and Canada. In 2007, Marquez, as captain of the team, appeared at the Gold Cup for the fourth time. At the tournament he played in all three matches with Mexico , Panama and Honduras . In 2011, he participated in the CONCACAF Gold Cup for the fifth time. He spent all 3 matches (with teams of Costa Rica, Mexico and El Salvador ) from start to finish and scored a goal for the national team of El Salvador. In 2013, Marquez became a member of the Gold Cup for the sixth time. The Cuban national team managed to get through to the quarter-finals, and the footballer himself played in all four games (against Costa Rica, USA, Belize and Panama) and scored the goal of the Belize national team. In 2015, Marquez arrived at the Gold Cup with a captain's armband. The Cuban national team repeated the success of the previous cup, Jenier took part in all the matches of the group stage, but missed the quarterfinal due to injury.
Also, the football player took part in five draws of the Caribbean Cup : in 2001 , 2005 , 2007 , 2008 , 2010 and 2014 . Total Jenier Marquez took part in 126 matches against Cuba [4] and is the record holder of the national team in terms of the number of matches played.
